I have no problems with Ultros joining our party.
Just let him know that as a healer, he's probably not going to be promoted, and just stuck as a reactive type who throws out a heal from time to time. It could be useful, though. Toss him the proboard details, Fiaryn, and tell him about our theories on the Cleric/Troubador versus Monk/Mage.
Actually, Monk could be neat, if we have a Shaman and Mage so we start off with all three magic types, but if he wants to be a healer, that's cool too.
No problems with Simon as a Knight, Chen as a Mage, and Jack as an Archer. I'll update the OP, then jam stats in there when people have decided on their region and bonuses.

I should have all mine accomplished by this afternoon, I'm assuming that no one hated the Cavalier idea ... ?
Is the center the prime starting position?

The starting position is still under debate.
Cavalier is fine - you're a mounted all-rounder with two weapons, and three on promotion. You should definitely start in the center to pick up whichever weapon you don't have (sword or lance), then head to area F, or one of the areas that border it on the outskirts. But only if other people are going to be there too, or you'll get overrun.
Given that Cavaliers are all-rounders, maybe buff Str and Def to make you a secondary tank/attacker? Speed 4 is enough to avoid double attacks from starting characters, and Swords/Lances are the accurate weapons, so skill should be okay at 3?

Actually Chen, look again. Each point of Skill counts for about two percent critical hit chance. With a 5 skill, Myrmidons are sitting on a 10% crit rate at game start. When they promote, they're going to have AT LEAST gotten one more point of Skill so they're looking at a 27% crit rate minimum. With a skill point each level, they'd have a 31% odds of crit per attack. Skill is pretty handy for the crit-tastic classes. True. No LCK means no Critical Evade. D: WildPanthA05: If in doubt, go for STR and SPD. edit: Actually, STR and DEF ain't bad either for the purpose of this game. Also, I think cavaliers start with a lance and a sword, since apparently players can start with two weapons. In that case, you want to pick up a vulnerary.

Some guidelines for your statbonuses, as I understand things. Fiaryn and Chen are more in the know for this gamesystem though, so their advice trumps mine.
If your Speed is 3, consider pumping it to 4 in order to protect you from double-attacks from +spd Myrmidons/Thieves. If it's 4+, or 2, don't bother.
HP is not worth pumping. +2 HP is nice, but +1 Def/Res is better. I think my urge to pump HP first was a holdover from EV training Pokémon.
Your damage stat is a good idea to pump up if you're going to attack a lot. If you're more of a support type (not that we have any - Clerics, Troubador, etc) consider pumping Def/Res instead.
Skill is neat for +crit classes (Myrmidon, Archer, Pirate) and low accuracy classes (Shaman, Pirate, Fighter, etc.), but not as neat as +ATK (I think, Chen/Fiaryn, back me up here?)
Also, Jack is currently an archer. What are the pros/cons for Archer versus Nomad? Other than the +crit upgrade for archers, and the Sword affinity for Nomads?

If you want to hax then SKL obviously. I can't see any reason not to go with STR and SPD though as a myrmidon. Double attacking for max damage > possible critical hit.
We do need Clerics or Troubadours though, preferably two to heal each other. I just made some calculations and Shamans, Knights, Mercenaries and Pirates can deal 8 damage to me, Fighters 10. D:
I'm seriously considering +SPD and +DEF now.

Huh, that's pretty harsh.
Do we think that the Spies will get a traditional Mafia kill, or will they have to fight us like in the Suikoden Phalla?
I'm going Str/Skl as a Myrmidon. As for healers... we have Ultros. Want me to poach someone else or just rely on the healer pool? We'd have to recruit one more person, taking us to 9 total.

I admit I'm kind of tempted to go Fighter instead of Pirate. On the one hand I do desire to be a Berserker. On the other hand Fighter seems more practical, especially with access to bows later.

That extra point of Res. will really help out, so yep.
14 HP / 4 MAG / 2 SKL / 3 SPD / 1 DEF / 5 RES

Chen what are your thoughts on a Ludein Fighter?
Total stats:
18 HP/5 Str/2 Skill/3 Speed/5 Defense/0 Resistance

The 2 in Skill might hurt, with axe accuracy, especially against a sword-user.
The 5s in Str/Def are niiiice, though. The 3 speed... I'm not sure on 3 speed. The classes that are going to double-attack you on 2 speed are... Myrmidons and Thieves, who have swords anyhow, Valkyries (promoted Troubadors GUFFAW) and then Archers, Cavaliers, Nomads, Pegasus Knights (GUFFAW x2), Soldiers and Wyvern Riders who have all invested in a point of speed. Of those classes, I only really see Archers and Nomads being a problem, as all the others use Lances and will either buff something else, or be Pegasus Knights (GUFFAW x3).
I'd probably pump Str/Def and SCREEEEEEAM at people.

Archer here, from Sandal, +STR (damage! woo!) and +SPD (getting double attacks and avoiding).
I like Archers>Nomads for the extra skill point, and the Crit later on.
Also, most of us have no magic resistance to speak of. How much of an issue is that going to be?
